OPTASE® Allegro is a preservative-free lubricant eye drop for dry, irritated eyes, especially when pollen, dust and other everyday irritants make dryness worse. • Key ingredient: Ectoin
  • Contact lenses: Contact lens compatible
  • After opening: Use within 3 months
  • Made by: OPTASE (Scope Health Inc.)

Why eye doctors recommend it

Eye doctors often recommend preservative-free drops for people who use drops several times a day, because preservatives can irritate the surface of the eye with frequent use. Allegro combines a proven eye lubricant with ectoin, an ingredient that attracts and holds water, to help form a protective hydration layer on the eye's surface. That makes it a common first choice when dryness comes with irritation from pollen, dust or other things in the air, and for contact lens wearers who want a drop they can use with lenses in.

Is Allegro right for me?

  • A good fit if your eyes feel dry, scratchy or irritated, especially outdoors or around pollen and dust.
  • A good fit if you wear contact lenses and want a preservative-free drop you can use with lenses in.
  • A good fit if your dryness is mild to moderate and you want a simple, everyday lubricant.
  • Choose OPTASE HYLO Relief if your symptoms are mild and you want the lightest, no-blur feel.
  • Choose OPTASE HYLO Forte if your dryness is moderate to severe or lightweight drops wear off too quickly.
  • Choose OPTASE Dry Eye Intense if you want the thickest drop in the OPTASE line.

Benefits

  • Preservative-free, so it's gentle enough for frequent daily use
  • Helps relieve dryness and irritation of the eye
  • Helps protect against further irritation from everyday environmental irritants
  • Contains ectoin, which attracts and holds water on the eye's surface
  • Contact lens compatible, including while wearing lenses
  • Multi-dose bottle, with no single-use vials to open and throw away

How to use

  1. Wash your hands. Before first use, make sure the tamper seal is intact.
  2. Remove the cap, tilt your head back slightly and gently pull down your lower eyelid.
  3. Holding the bottle tip-down without touching your eye or eyelid, gently squeeze to release a drop into the pocket of your lower eyelid.
  4. Close your eye slowly so the drop spreads across the surface. Repeat for the other eye.
  5. Keep the tip from touching your eye, skin or any surface, then replace the cap right away.

Put one or two drops in the affected eyes as needed.

What to expect

Most people feel more comfortable soon after the drop spreads. A brief, mild blur can happen right after applying and usually clears with a few blinks. If you have eye pain, changes in vision, or continued redness or irritation, or if symptoms get worse or last more than 72 hours, stop using the drops and see your eye doctor.

Key ingredients

  • Hydroxyethyl Cellulose 0.35% (active): an eye lubricant that relieves dryness and helps protect the eye's surface.
  • Ectoin: attracts and holds water, helping form a protective hydration layer that supports the tear film.

How long a bottle lasts

Each 10 mL bottle is designed for daily use as needed. Throw the bottle away 3 months after opening, even if there's solution left. Writing the open date on the box makes it easy to keep track.

Pairs well with

Pollen, dust and makeup can collect along the lash line and keep irritating your eyes. A simple daily routine:

  1. Peeq Pro Foaming Eyelid & Facial Cleanser: cleans oil, debris and irritants from the lash line
  2. OPTASE Allegro: lubricates and helps protect the eye's surface through the day

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Allegro and HYLO Forte?

Both are preservative-free OPTASE lubricant drops. Allegro pairs hydroxyethyl cellulose with ectoin and is a good everyday choice when irritants like pollen and dust bother dry eyes. HYLO Forte uses glycerin with OPTASE's highest concentration of hyaluronic acid for moderate to severe dryness. If you're unsure, ask your eye doctor which fits your symptoms.

Is Allegro an allergy eye drop?

No. Allegro is a lubricant, not an antihistamine. It relieves dryness and helps protect against further irritation, which can help when pollen and dust make dry eyes feel worse. If you have itchy, watery allergy symptoms, ask your eye doctor whether an allergy drop is right for you.

Can I use Allegro with contact lenses?

Yes. OPTASE lists Allegro as contact lens compatible, including while wearing lenses.

Is it okay to use eye drops every day?

Preservative-free drops like Allegro are designed for frequent, daily use. If you find you need drops constantly, or your symptoms aren't improving, see your eye doctor to find the cause. Learn more in Is It Bad to Use Eye Drops Every Day?
